100,000 Helmets To Be Distributed Across the Country This Year

The National Road Safety Committee (NRSC) will increase their efforts to raise people's awareness on traffic law and encourage them to wear helmets by distributing up to 100,000 helmets throughout the country this year.

The move was made as the road traffic fatality rate due to non-wearing of helmet remains high, said here recently Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport H.E. Sun Chanthol in a monthly meeting on road traffic safety.

Some 70,000 helmets have been so far distributed in the provinces and municipality across the Kingdom, he added.

Meanwhile, he underlined, measures against over speeding, the 2nd most common cause of road accidents, will be also reinforced.

According to a report of NRSC, 819 cases of road accidents were recorded in the first three months of this year, killing 480 people and injuring 1,234 others. Some 75 percent of the fatal cases were motorbike drivers and 73 percent of them did not wear helmet.
