Cambodia Attends Japan-ASEAN Ship Rider Cooperation Programme

A Cambodian navy officer joined his counterparts from other ASEAN countries in the Japan-ASEAN Ship Rider Cooperation Programme held from May 10-15, 2018 from Indonesia to Malaysia.

According to a press release from Embassy of Japanese in Phnom Penh, this programme was led by the Ministry of National Defence of Japan. This is the second year of the programme conducted on the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force Ship OSUMI.

The programme, which included seminars on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief and International Law of the Sea, and opportunities to observe various training activities, is an initiative under the Vientiane Vision, which was announced by Japan at the second ASEAN-Japan Defence Ministers' Informal Meeting held in Vientiane, Lao PDR on November 2016.

Based on the guiding principles of the Vientiane Vision, this programme will contribute to regional stability by providing opportunities for participants to build mutual understanding and professional networks, enhance capabilities related to maritime security, and share understanding of International Law of the Sea.
