Cambodia Breaks Another World Record for the Longest Boat

Cambodia's longest dragon boat of 87.3 metres long and 1.94 metres wide has broken the Guinness World Record this morning.

Representative of the World Guinness Records made the announcement at a ceremony taking place at Neak Loeung of Prey Veng province, under the presidency of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Samdech Kralahorm Sar Kheng.

H.E. Hun Many, President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), H.E. Sar Sokha, Vice President of UYFC and also Head of the Longest Boat Making Commission, and H.E. Chea Somethy, Governor of Prey Veng province, were also in attendance.

The dragon boat, named Kambojikaputtakhemaratari, literally meaning the boat of Khmers in Cambodian territory, was made of hardwood with artistic Khmer ancient design by more than 14,000 Cambodian people in 192 days. It is capable of carrying 179 people.

The longest boat is not the first effort of Cambodia for the world record. In July of this year, its 1,149-metre-long Krama was recognised by the Guinness World Record as the world's longest hand-woven scarf. In 2015, a four-ton Nom Ansorm, a traditional Cambodian rice cake made from sticky rice, mug bean, and pork, also won a Guinness World Record. Besides, in the same year, the country broke the Guinness World Record for the largest Madison dance with 2,015 participants.
