Japan Committing about US$3.5 Million to Cambodia’s Mine Clearance in 2019

AKP Phnom Penh, Japan is committing about US$3.5 Million to demining activities in Cambodia in 2019, according to local media report.

The news was shared recently by the Director General of Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) Mr. HengRatana.

The exact amount of US$3,536,680 from the Government and people of Japan will be used to support not only mine clearance activities, but also development projects and those affected by the war remains.

The assistance that also includes 450 deployed demining experts and equipment is expected to clear landmines from more than 2,750 hectares of land, added H.E. HengRatana.

For the last 20 years, Cambodia has so far demined 2.7 million mines � which is about 70 percent of the estimated total number of mines resulted from the country's civil war.

Japan is a leading country in supporting Cambodia with the demining activities.
