‘Light’ Taskforces Assigned to Support Preah Sihanouk Province with Emerging Development Issues

Cambodia is formulating 'light' taskforces to support Preah Sihanouk provincial authorities to address emerging issues in order to get it more ready for rapid development in the coastal area.

The initiative was underlined by currently acting Prime Minister Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng during official event to appoint his line officials at the ministry office here in Phnom Penh yesterday.

The assigned taskforces, he underlined, will not go to replace the work of competent provincial authorities, but to support them with it.

According to the acting Prime Minister, the decision was made following the endorsement of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen after reviewing an assessment report about the situation of Preah Sihanouk province.

The teams will provide technical assistance on a wide range of issues, particularly the security and environmental pollution.

The beautiful coastal Preah Sihanouk province, he continued, has absorbed a big part of Cambodia's rising development including foreign investments leading to the mentioned spill-over.

The population of the province has soared to almost 300,000 of them about 70,000 are foreigners, mainly Chinese let alone numerous construction projects, so special additional interventions are needed for the province to be up to its speed.
