Ministry of Mines and Energy Rejects Rumour on Gold Discovery in Preah Sihanouk Province

The Ministry of Mines and Energy has issued a press release rejecting a rumour on the discovery of gold deposits in Prey Nup district, Preah Sihanouk province.

After the rumour about the gold finding in Zhejiang Special Economic Zone in Prey Nup district on May 3, 2018 was spread, a group of experts was dispatched to the area to conduct an investigation into the case in cooperation with local authorities, said the press release dated May 18.

According to the field investigation, what was discovered is not gold, but piryte (FeS2) that looks similar to gold. The piryte deposits found are so limited that are not economically potential, it underlined.

The suspected zone of gold discovery is the construction site of Zhejiang Special Economic Zone which has already got licence from the Royal Government of Cambodia, pointed out the same source.
