More Foreign Visitors Interested in Boat Racing and Loy Pratip

The Ministry of Tourism's pavilion erected for foreign visitors attracted more than 4,000 of them, on the second day of the Water Festival in Phnom Penh, pointed out the ministry in a news release.

Most of them are from France, the UK, Poland, Russia, Spain, Germany, the U.S., China, South Korea, Japan, India, Vietnam and some from the Middle East.

H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, expressed warm welcome to visitors of all nationalities and encouraged them to share the real situation in Cambodia as well its tourism products and traditional, cultural and tourism events, including the Water Festival, to their friends and relatives.

On the first day of the annual Water Festival, this pavilion attracted only 3,000 visitors.

At the Ministry of Tourism's pavilion, situated north of the honorary pavilion in front of the Royal Palace, all visitors are provided with beverage service, direct translation service, and headsets in three languages - English, French and Chinese.

This year, the Water Festival kicked off on Nov. 21 with boat racing on the Tonle Sap River, in front of the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh.

Apart from boat racing joined by 298 boats and more than 20,000 rowers, "Loy Pratip" - the display of decorative lighted boats from different public institutions, "Sampeas Preah Khe" - Moon Festival, and "Ok Ambok" - a type of glutinous rice roasted and crushed with pestle eaten with banana or coconut juice, are the main events of the Water Festival.

All of the decorative lighted boats are floated during the three evenings along the Tonle Sap River, from the Royal Palace to the Chroy Changvar Bridge until 10:00 pm.

There are also the display of fireworks at around 6:30 pm during the three-day celebration.

Over 2 million visitors, both local and foreign, were expected to come and enjoy the last two days of the Water Festival.

To prevent accidents, strengthen security and social order, and maintain the city's beauty, 12,754 security forces have been deployed, medical doctors and nurses have been stationed, some 500 mobile toilets and 1,600 bins have been put at different locations. Moreover, authorities have restricted the traffic of heavy trucks in the city from Nov. 20 to 24.
