NA Approves Over US$1.3-Billion Power Projects

National Assembly of Cambodia yesterday approved the US$1,348-million power projects a solar power plant in Kampong Speu province and a coal-fired plant in Preah Sihanouk province.

The estimated US$58-million Solar power plant will be built on an area of 80 hectares in Damnak Vaing commune, Oudong district of Kampong Speu province. Once completed, the 60-megawatt plant will be able to generate 96 million kilowatt hours of energy.

The coal-fired power plant, invested by Cambodia International Investment Development Group with an investment capital of US$1,290 million, will be constructed in Stung Hav district, Preah Sihanouk province. This 700-megawatt plant is expected to produce more than 5,200 million kilowatt hours of energy.

The approval of the two energy projects is in response to the domestic demand of electricity and reduce the import of electricity from neighbouring countries.

The two power projects were discussed and approved by the Council of the Ministers in late May.
