NEC: 21 Days of Election Campaign Held Smoothly

Spokesperson of the National Election Committee (NEC) H.E. Hang Puthea has affirmed that the three-week election campaign, from July 7 to 27, was concluded smoothly with mutual respect and understanding.

The 20 political parties conducted their political campaign by taking to the streets, organising meetings, distributing leaflets, screening films, holding concerts, and so on, said yesterday the spokesperson at a meeting with all stakeholders over the election campaign process.

Nearly 2 million people joined political processions using more than 60,000 cars and over 300,000 motorbikes, he added.

During the 21-day period, he said, NEC has received in total 30 complaints, and only 10 of which have not been resolved yet.

According to H.E. Hang Puthea, NEC has accredited 79,612 local observers from 112 institutions and 538 international observers from 70 institutions and foreign embassies in Cambodia, up from some 40,000 and 243, respectively in the previous mandate, as well as 79,849 political agents from 14 out of 20 registered political parties.

H.E. Sok Eysan, Spokesperson for the ruling Cambodian People's Party, was quoted by a local media as saying that 44 representatives from the European Community, including senators and members of Parliament, and 4 U.S. senators will take part in the National Election to be held this Sunday as observers.

Regarding flash floods in Stung Treng province, H.E. Hang Puthea said the affected polling stations have been moved to the nearby sites.
