Renovation of Phnom Penh-Poipet Railway to Be Completed in July

The restoration of the railway line linking Phnom Penh to Poipet, at the border with Thailand, will be completed in July as planned to facilitate the cross-border passenger and goods transportation service.

H.E. Ly Borin, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport affirmed early this week that the Phnom Penh-Poipet railway improvement project would be completed on July 4 as planned.

Once completed, passengers can enjoy the free-of-charge service till Aug. 1, 2018, he added.

The over-380-kilometre Phnom Penh-Poipet railway, known as the Northern Line, crosses Phnom Penh city and the provinces of Kandal, Kampong Speu, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey.

Besides the Northern Line, the Southern Line of more than 260 kilometres long from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville of Preah Sihanouk province, passing through Takeo and Kampot provinces, has been already renovated and put into operation.
