Some 5,000 Cases of Dengue Fever Recorded in First Semester

During the first six months of this year, there were in total 5,284 cases of dengue fever, up 77 percent compared with the same period last year, according to a report of the National Centre for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control (CNM).

Ten mortality cases due to dengue fever were recorded, up from only one case in the first semester of 2017, it added.

The most affected provinces are Kandal, Kampong Cham, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, Kampong Thom, Prey Veng, Thbong Khmum, Kampong Chhnang, Preah Vihear, Kratie, and Kampong Speu, and the capital of Phnom Penh, it pointed out.

CNM thus advised people to increase their vigilance with dengue fever, i.e. to live in good environment and sanitation.

Dengue fever, a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes, mostly hits tropical and sub-tropical regions. The symptoms include high fever, nausea, rashes, backache and headaches.

The hemorrhagic variant, which causes severe internal bleeding as blood vessels collapse, is often fatal.
